On 12 May 2020, the Shift2Rail funded project Translate4Rail held its Advisory Board. Attended by 17 participants, the online meeting was the opportunity to share with all stakeholders the progress achieved in the first six months of the project.

The project coordinator was pleased to report that despite the difficulties induced by the Covid-19 pandemic, the overall project was on track and the first five deliverables submitted on time.

The focus of the work for the period ahead is the preparation of the pilot on which the translating tool is to be tested. The pilot will run between Italy and Austria and the railway undertakings having expressed their interest to participate are Rail Cargo Austria and DB Cargo Italy.

The Consortium partners informed the meeting that the supplier for the translating tool had been selected and that he had developed a mock up, a preview of which was presented and a support video prepared to better explain the basic principles of the tool.

This led to an interactive exchange between Advisory Board members whose recommendations will be incorporate in the pilot preparatory phase. Safety being paramount, the meeting was reminded that before running field tests, the tool and pilot methodology would be tried in a safe laboratory environment.

A second Advisory will be arranged at the end of June when the tool and pilot guidelines will be more advanced.
